Cartmel Racecourse

The Course

Cartmel race course is a National Hunt horseracing track and is run left handed. Cartmel only hosts 6 race meetings during the year but is extremely popular with families, particularly for the race meetings taking place on Bank Holidays. The course is set in the heart of the 12th century village of Cartmel and racing has been taking place here since 1856.

The Facilities

The Paddock Enclosure: The Grandstand and Paddock, the Parade Ring, Winners Enclosure, Marquee Village and the new Cartmel Restaurant are all features of the Paddock Enclosure. Also in this enclosure is the main office. Paddock Enclosure ticket holders are also permitted access to the Course Enclosure between races. As it is on the opposite side of the track, crossing is not allowed during races.

The Course Enclosure: This enclosure is also on the finishing straight, but on the opposite side to the Paddock Enclosure. This enclosure benefits from a fairground, trade stands and also market stalls and is the most popular enclosure for a family day out.

How To Get To Cartmel

There are AA signs which will direct you to the racecourse from the motorway. The final few miles to the track are along narrow country lanes, which can become rather busy on race days.
