Chester Racecourse

The Course

Chester is thought to be the oldest racing venue in England; racing around Chester’s tight ‘Roodee’ track has taken place since 1539 and some 500 years on the track itself has changed very little – the city walls and banks of the River Dee shaping two thirds of the circuit.

The sharp nature of the course means that it races exclusively on the Flat and Chester’s May Festival is now considered to be one of the highlights of the Flat racing calendar.

The Facilities

The County Stand overlooks the final furlong of the race-track, affording excellent views of the final stages of every race and big screen at the finishing post. A County Concourse badge enables you access to the County Concourse Bar on the ground floor of the County Stand, the Paddock, accessible via the underpass beneath the track and all the accompanying facilities in the centre of the course including the County Champagne Bar.

The Dee Stand is located on the grandstand side of the track and accessible from Nuns Road via Gates 7 and 8. Once through the gates, make your way down the steps to the uncovered stand – a great place from which to spectate throughout the day. From here you can watch the races throughout the afternoon and view the big screens with both home and away racing action running throughout the day.

The Tattersalls Enclosure is located on the grandstand side of the track and accessible from Nuns Road via Gates 5 and 6. Once through the gates, make your way down the steps to the partially overed tiered standing area of the enclosure. From here you can watch the races throughout the afternoon/evening and view the big screens with both home and away racing action running throughout the day.
